Kitchen

This kitchen has a wood or coal burning stove which would have been used when the fort was opened.  You will also find some unique items that would have been used during the era.

Notice the ice box that would have been used to keep food cold.  It would not have a freezer like we have now on our refrigerators.  Instead there is a compartment for a block of ice to keep things cool.  How long this block would last one is not sure as it would depend on how often the ice box was opened and also how warm the kitchen got.

As you leave the kitchen you will head for the hall way that shows some of the early restoration of the house and a timeline of the Fort’s history.
